Referred to statistics (as of 17 March 2009), there are 32 731 registered voters over 18 years. According to the 2010 National Statistics Office (NSO) census (as of 01.05.2010) it has already a population of 56 803 persons.

Hilongos is a Philippine municipality, located in the Province of Leyte, Region VIII Eastern Visayas, which is a part of the Visayas group of islands. Hilongos is seated about 165 km south-south-west of Province capital Tacloban City and about 1000 km south-east of Philippine main capital Manila. The geographic coordinates of Hilongos are 10° 22' 0'' N, 124° 45' 0'' E.

The city can be reached from north to south through the "National Highway" and from east to west along a winding main road over the mountains.

The city is bounded on the north by the municipality of Hindang and the southbound by municipality of Bato. In the east it extends to the Mahaplag-Sogod boundary that separates the two provinces of Leyte and Southern Leyte. The cordillera and mountain slopes, similar like barricades, rivers, streams and irrigation canals of the municipality of Bontoc (Southern Leyte) serves as boundary.

Hilongos is proud of the mid-1960s-built airport, that has a short take-off and landing strip. A small building and a street sign signals: here to go to the airport, which is again approached since 2010 by smaller private aircraft.
